Sanju Samson has been slapped with a fine following RR’s game against GT yesterday.

The Rajasthan Royals picked up their first loss of the season at the hands of Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. However, the woes continue to pile on as the RR skipper has been fined for violating the IPL’s Code of Conduct.

Following the match, a statement from IPL was released which said,” Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on April 10″.

RR despite fielding three spinners in the second innings were still fined for a slow over-rate where the trio of Ravi Ashwin, Yuzi Chahal and Keshav Maharaj had bowled a total of 10 overs in the innings. The South African, Maharaj was roped in recently to replace Adam Zampa who had opted out of the tournament.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” the statement added.

The skipper along with other players like Riyan Parag or Jos Buttler was seen having a chat with the pacer, Kuldeep Sen in the penultimate over which prolonged the innings above the desired time limit.

However, despite the delays, GT managed to get the win thanks to the heroics of Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia in the back-end of the innings to help them chase down a target of 197 runs.

The match went down to the final delivery where GT needed 2 runs. Avesh Khan who had performed in the death overs brilliantly, had an off-day as he gave away two boundaries in the over, missing his yorkers to give the visitors their first away win of the season.

RR however, remains on top but KKR have a game in hand and a victory for the Knight Riders means that they would go back on top due to their superior net run-rate.

The Royals will face their next test against the Punjab Kings at the Mullanpur Stadium in Mohali for their second away game of the season on April 13.
