KKR’s Assistant Coach, Abhishek Nayar believes that the presence of Gautam Gambhir has provided a boost which has given the side the perfect start to IPL 2024.

The Kolkata Knight Riders face their next big test as they take on the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai where the visitors will look to maintain their win streak and make it four wins in as many games.

Reflecting on KKR’s season, Abhishek Nayar, the assistant coach believes that the return of Gautam Gambhir as the side’s mentor has played a big role in their strong start to the season. The coach had spoken at the pre-match press conference where he said, “There is no substitute for experience or a captain who has won two IPL championships with a franchise. Regardless as a mentor or on the field, having GG in the dugout makes a big difference and is a big boost for the players”.

Some of the players currently in the squad like Sunil Narine were part of the side when Gambhir captained them to the franchise’s only two titles in history.

Nayar added,” Players who have played under him, like Sunny (Sunil Narine) and (Andre) Russell, you can see the difference, with Sunny scoring runs as an opener. So, all of it matters.”

Among their young talents, Angkrish Raghuvanshi has made a good impression on the side after making a fiery fifty on debut in KKR’s previous game against the Delhi Capitals. The coach sees his ability to be a workhorse always working to improve on his skills.

Nayar said, “His work ethic, besides skill sets, the willingness to work hard matters because that is a sort of talent that not everyone possesses.

“Skill is something that you can develop if you have the knack of working hard. It is something that has always stood out with him for some years — his attitude to go, get it, get better and chase his dreams,” he concluded.

KKR along with the Rajasthan Royals are the only two sides to remain unbeaten so far. The Kolkata-based franchise has won three games on the bounce and will face the five-time champions in their fourth game which can get them back on top of the table with a win.
