Andrew Flintoff will portray the character of a guide who inspires a group of teenagers from his hometown Preston to become competitive cricketers.

England legend Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff is set to resume his career as a television personality, featuring in the second season of BBC’s cricket documentary Field of Dreams. It marks the first project for Flintoff since meeting a horrific car accident while shooting for another BBC show, One Top Gear, in December 2022. In his upcoming docu-series, Flintoff will portray the character of a guide who inspires a group of teenagers from his hometown Preston to become competitive cricketers. There will be four episodes in the second season of Field of Dreams.

The BBC broke the news while announcing their annual plan on Thursday, March 28. In a press release, the broadcaster said, “Freddie is setting himself an even bigger challenge as he takes some of his team and a handful of fresh recruits on a new adventure,” as quoted by the Independent. The BBC, however, didn’t reveal the exact date when the second season will be aired. The first season of the show released in July 2022.

Last year in March, the BBC admitted that it would be inappropriate to resume the shooting of the show especially at a time when an internal investigation was going on about Flintoff’s accident.

After his car Morgan Super 3 flipped at the Top Gear Test track, the former cricketer was airlifted to the hospital as he sustained facial injuries. It has been understood that the future episodes of Top Gear will be shot in due course, especially in conjunction with BBC content.

In September last year, Andrew Flintoff made his first public appearance since recovering from the injuries. He attended the first ODI between England and New Zealand and the injury scars could be spotted all over his face.

During an interaction with Good Morning Britain in February, Paddy McGuiness, who was Flintoff’s Top Gear co-actor, said, “We have sincerely apologized to Freddie and will continue to support him with his recovery. I’ve not spoken to him for a while, but, you know, he is getting on with it,” Independent quoted.

Flintoff first appeared in Top Gear in 2019. He has also appeared on other TV shows like Sky’s A League Of Their Own and also participated in the first season of the reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! And went on to win that season.
