Newcastle urged to sign Man Utd, Chelsea linked goal machine; €200m required for game-changing addition

Newcastle United have been urged to sign Napoli centre-forward Victor Osimhen as they aim to cement their spot among Europe’s elite clubs.

Eddie Howe has two top strikers in Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson at his disposal but the Magpies have been told that Osimhen could take them to the next level.

Both Manchester United and Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old for several months but were put off by his price tag this summer.

As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Napoli were demanding a fee of €200m for Osimhen. Paris Saint-Germain were also interested in signing him.

The Nigeria international is now thought to be close to signing a new contract with Napoli, which will only make it more difficult to lure him away from the Italian club.

That is no surprise from Napoli’s point of view, though, considering Osimhen scored an outstanding 26 goals in 32 Serie A appearances last season.

He has also continued his excellent form this season, netting three goals in three matches so far. If he could have a similar impact at Newcastle, he could arguably turn them into Premier League title challengers.

Shearer wants Osimhen at Newcastle

Speaking on The Rest is Football, legendary Newcastle striker Alan Shearer was asked about the Magpies’ transfer dealings and whether he would like to see any marquee signings come in.

Micah Richards asked Shearer about Osimhen, and the he agreed that he would be pleased if they were able to land the Nigerian talisman.

“Who would you like to see? When I was at Man City we signed Robinho who took us to the next level, who would you like to see? Osimhen maybe from Napoli?,” Richards asked.

“Yeah, they already have [Callum] Wilson and [Alexander] Isak, but I do not think you can ever have too many up top, you can change and rotate, he would have been a very good signing yeah.

“They have done it differently than we thought, a more measured way rather than going out and buying that big name,” replied Shearer.

Shearer isn’t the only former Premier League striker who is a big fan of Osimhen, either. Chelsea icon Didier Drogba thinks that he could be a success in the Premier League.

“I like him a lot. Great striker,” said Drogba in an interview with Marco Giordano.

“He can be the best in the world and when you have the talent like he has got, I think it is just a question of momentum.”

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle take Shearer’s advice and make a big-money move for Osimhen when the transfer window re-opens in January.
