Euro Paper Talk: Liverpool left floundering as Newcastle jump to front of queue to sign £35m winger; Tottenham to trigger exit clause of Danish centre-back

Newcastle have jumped ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign a brilliant Juventus attacker, while Tottenham are ready to trigger the release clause of a Danish centre-back also wanted by Wolves – all in Thursday’s Euro Paper Talk.

HOWE LOOKS TO POACH TOP KLOPP TARGET

Newcastle United have reportedly moved ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from Turin this summer, having fallen out with Juve boss Max Allegri.

And, should the Serie A giants look to cash in, Liverpool were very much thought to be the frontrunners for his signature.

But now Calciomercato states that Eddie Howe’s men are the most likely to win the race for the Italy international.

The St James’ Park outfit are said to be ‘dreaming’ of pairing Chiesa with his Italy teammate Sandro Tonali, who completed his move to Tyneside at the start of the week.

A fee in the region of £35million is being mooted for the talented attacker, who starred in Italy’s success at Euro 2020.

Liverpool not out of the running just yet

However, the report does add that Liverpool are not completely out of the running to sign the player who Jurgen Klopp wants to pair the opposite side to Mo Salah.

There is also still the chance that Chiesa, although only if he can overcome his differences with Allegri.

Calcio adds that the forward could yet ‘seek redemption’ at the Allianz in a move that would then scupper both Newcastle and Liverpool.

While not really renowned for his goalscoring, Chiesa is an outstanding creative presence who would boost any side.

The former Fiorentina man has scored 56 goals in 247 club career appearances and also notched five times in 42 outings for Italy.
