Two Premier League clubs are reportedly ‘in talks’ to sign Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, with Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal all in the race.
The 24-year-old has been the subject of heavy interest since winning the World Cup with Argentina last year, with the Seagull’s resolve set to be tested this summer.
Indeed, with Brighton currently in a fantastic run of form, it would be a major blow for Roberto De Zerbi to lose one of his brightest talents.
According to transfer journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal remain very interested in signing Mac Allister.
He also added that two of the clubs in question are already in talks with the Argentina international’s representatives.
On Twitter, Merlo said: “Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have a concrete interest in signing Alexis Mac Allister in the next transfer window.
“Two of those clubs are already negotiating for the Brighton footballer. His father and agent are in England monitoring the situation.”
However, De Zerbi is unlikely to let Mac Allister go cheaply, so the Premier League trio will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal over the line.
Mac Allister wants to join another PL club
This season, Mac Allister has remained a key player for Brighton, scoring 10 goals and making two assists in 28 appearances across all competitions, giving him an impressive average of 0.43 goal contributions per game.
Also, as mentioned, the midfielder made a name for himself after helping Argentina to win the World Cup last year, playing in all but one of their matches and scoring one goal, as well as making a key assist in the final against France.
Speaking in March, Mac Allister admitted that while he was focused on Brighton, he has aspirations of joining a bigger Premier League club in the future.
“At the moment I’m enjoying my present at Brighton and I’m not thinking about the future,” he told TyC Sports.
“But, I would like my next team to be in the Premier League.”
Liverpool are arguably most in need of a new midfielder at the moment, with the likes of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho all past their prime.
Also, with Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to depart Anfield at the end of the season, Jurgen Klopp will have to replace them, too. With that in mind, it’s no surprise to see Mac Allister on the Red’s radar.
However, after a disappointing season, Liverpool are unlikely to be in the Champions League next term. As a result, Mac Allister could opt to join Man Utd or Premier League leaders Arsenal instead.
First, though, the Premier League trio will have to meet the midfielder’s price tag, which Brighton have reportedly set at £70m.
