Disastrous Tottenham signing to finally end as report reveals financial hit Fabio Paratici will have to take

A report has detailed how much money Tottenham will lose when letting full-back Emerson Royal depart the club.

Tottenham signed Emerson from Barcelona in August 2021. According to Sky Sports, the north London side spent €30million (then £25.7m) to bring him in on a five-year contract.

The Brazilian was captured by Tottenham to battle Matt Doherty for a starting spot on the right flank, with the latter arriving the year before.

However, Emerson has been an incredibly poor signing from Tottenham. He is well below the standards required defensively and has also failed to make himself a threat at the other end of the pitch.

His record stands at just one goal and two assists in 62 appearances for Spurs so far.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte is fed up with his right wing-back options. Doherty has not been able to replicate his Wolves form in north London, while Conte did not even want summer arrival Djed Spence to join the club.

Spurs have been linked with several right wing-backs to solve Conte’s problems in the position. Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries is one of their top targets, while they are also in discussions with Sporting Lisbon over the capture of Pedro Porro.

Reports claim Spurs are happy to meet Porro’s release clause, which is in the region of £40m. Unfortunately for Conte, his former club Chelsea are planning to hijack the deal. The Blues have apparently ‘set their sights’ on Porro.

Paratici opts to sell Tottenham flop

While the Spaniard may or may not be moving to Spurs, Fabio Paratici has made a decision on Emerson’s future. According to Italian source Inter Live, he has opted to place the flop on the transfer market.

As such, there is now the strong possibility of Emerson leaving before the January 31 deadline.

Inter are wary of the intensifying interest in their own right wing-back, Dumfries. Alongside Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United hope to sign the wide man.

As such, the Nerazzurri are looking at Emerson as a potential replacement. It is unclear what has made them decide on Emerson, given his poor spell in England, but they are looking at him all the same.

The report reveals how much Spurs are willing to let the 23-year-old go for, too. After spending £25.7m to land him, they are now happy to sanction a sale at £22m. This would see then take a financial hit of £3.7m.

This does not seem like a big amount of money. But given the fact Spurs only signed him fairly recently, it shows how badly Emerson has performed during his time at Spurs.

He might not be the only player to leave Spurs in the near future. Paratici is in preliminary talks with Inter’s Italian rivals Salernitana over the transfer of young midfielder Pape Matar Sarr.

Unlike Emerson, though, Sarr has a long-term future at Spurs as he is highly rated by their coaches. As such, Spurs will allow him to go to Italy on a six-month loan. Then, in the summer, he would potentially return as a better player.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ pursuit of a former Man Utd player has resulted in a panicked response from his current club.
