A pundit thinks a Manchester United player will end up on loan at Everton once his Old Trafford downfall is complete.
Man Utd have spent huge sums of money in recent years to try and replicate the success of Manchester City and Liverpool. This is shown by the big-money signings of Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek and Bruno Fernandes.
The latter is the only one of those four to have impressed and made a big positive impact on the team. Maguire, Sancho and Van De Beek, meanwhile, have all received plenty of criticism for their poor displays.
Man Utd once again went big in the recent summer transfer window. They signed Antony for £86m, Casemiro for £70m and Lisandro Martinez for £57m.
Casemiro and Martinez look set to appear in the Fernandes category as Erik ten Hag is getting the best out of them. The jury is still out on Antony though, given he was their most expensive capture of the year.
Former Man Utd right-back Gary Neville has previously claimed the club to be a ‘graveyard’ for talented stars. This is down to the fact they rarely manage to improve players once they arrive in Manchester.
This is the case for Sancho, Maguire, Van De Beek and even Raphael Varane.
Sancho has recently fallen down the pecking order at Man Utd amid Alejandro Garnacho’s rise and Antony’s move from Ajax. He has missed Man Utd’s last two Premier League matches due to illness.
Jadon Sancho enduring tough season
Even when Sancho has been in the starting eleven, he has not had a huge impact on matches. Just three goals and one assist have come his way in 14 outings this campaign. It is a startling downturn for a player who was so deadly at Borussia Dortmund.
And now one pundit has given his opinion on where Sancho’s downfall may conclude.
During the Red Devils’ clash with Fulham on Sunday, which ended in a 2-1 win for Ten Hag’s men, former Sheffield United and Birmingham City player Curtis Woodhouse tweeted about Sancho.
He wrote: ‘I don’t get them all right, [Mikel] Arteta being one but I was bang on about Sancho, [he] will be at Everton soon on loan.’
The criticism is perhaps a bit harsh, given the fact Sancho was missing for the game due to illness. But Woodhouse is not the only pundit to take aim at the 22-year-old recently.
Sancho criticism also comes from Paul Parker
In a recent interview, former Man Utd player Paul Parker was asked about Sancho. He responded: “If you look at the money Man United paid for him, I would say that he could end up being the worst buy ever in Manchester United’s history.
“To be honest I’ve never really understood why Man United paid so much money for Jadon Sancho.”
When joining Man Utd in summer 2021, Sancho was expected to light up the Prem. And this should have seen him become a mainstay in the England team, too.
Instead, Sancho has looked out of sorts and low on confidence for much of his Man Utd career. Things have gotten so bad that he was way off contention for a World Cup spot.
Gareth Southgate has instead gone with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, Bukayo Saka and James Maddison as potential wide men.
Woodhouse’s Everton comment likely stems from the fact they are known to hand out big contracts to flops. The signing of James Rodriguez is a prime example.
But Frank Lampard is trying to change Everton’s ways and make them more respectable in the transfer market. As such, even the Toffees would probably reject Sancho if he became available amid his current poor form.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo will have to move over as Man Utd apparently have a new ‘superstar’ in their ranks.
